Port Nikau Commercial

Port Nikau's commercial precinct is well established and will continue to grow as the wider development unfolds over the coming years. The development offers unique opportunities for commercial and industrial interests, with unmatched property zoning, amenities and location.

Existing

Considered the premier industrial and commercial precinct in Whangārei, Port Nikau has a well established commercial business park offering affordable, freehold land.

Selling Now

A rare opportunity to acquire strategic commercial landholdings on Port Road that will ultimately be Gateway sites into the Port Nikau development.

Master Plan

In late 2021 the Master Plan for Port Nikau was finalised, highlighting the key development stages and a detailed breakdown of the 100-hectare development.

Premier Commercial and Industrial Precinct

Port Nikau is home to a range of quality commercial properties in a high-quality business park situated on and adjacent to Port Road. Over the last decade, Port Nikau has worked hard to support and manage these existing commercial interests, with a particular focus on strengthening marine facilities.

Existing businesses in the engineering, transport, manufacturing and storage sectors have already recognised the advantages of this prime location. Recently major brands Isuzu and Mainfreight have also invested in the area, which shows the confidence firms have in Port Nikau.

  • What commercial land is available to lease or buy?

As a new development, Port Nikau offers an opportunity for bespoke, customised lease packages. • What geotechnical preparation is required?

This will depend upon the intended use of the property. As with any commercial development a geotechnical investigation, specific to the intended use, is recommended prior to purchase.

  • Is Port Nikau built on reclaimed land?

Yes, much of the Whangārei CBD and lower Port Road area is built on land reclaimed by the Harbour Board in the 1960s. The land has had over 60 years to settle and consolidate. All buildings and developments are preceded by in-depth engineering investigations and solutions to ensure appropriate ground conditions can be met for the planned residential and/or commercial investments.

  • How close is Port Nikau to the city and key amenities?

Port Nikau is in central Whangārei, with primary, intermediate, secondary and tertiary institutions all within 5 kilometres. It’s just 9 kilometres to Whangārei Airport and 5 kilometres to Whangārei Hospital. The nearest supermarket and shopping centre is less than 3 kilometres away.

  • Whangarei has flooding issues in some industrial areas. What flooding mitigation exists at Port Nikau?

The Northland Regional Council has recently updated the district’s flood maps, which show that developed areas of Port Nikau are NOT at risk from flooding from either 10-year or 100-year flood events. This contrasts with large areas of the CBD which are identified on the flood maps as being at risk of a 100-year flood event.

The flood maps include an allowance for the effects of climate change, including higher intensity rainfall and sea-level rise. The flood maps are available for viewing here.
